Message from Nikki Kawazoe

A tree which has lived a hundred years can live another hundred through the hands of mankind.

I use this motto to create lifelong, high quality tableware.

Hollowing only from a single block of wood, I choose to carve with the grain of the tree – to listen and honour what nature has already laid out for it.

The flowers that I carve and lacquer  into many of my designs are the flowers that I remember from my time in hills and mountains, Japan.

To me these vessels express the progressions of nature – the feeling of letting your heart play with the smell of the trees and sound of the wind, shared between all of us and our ancestors before us.

These lacquerware pieces are made up of the learnings left by our ancestors.
